| As per evidence from this week’s Tandra page, acting as an effective costumed vigilante in the Tandra Universe is not so easy as the comical books would have you to believe. Where is a crime to solve when you really need one? Just as a matter of research, I took a night off last week to go and look for crime. I drove to town and wandered around for hours looking for a holdup or a mugging to thwart. Sometime around two in the morning I became disgusted and packed it in. Not only did I not find any fair damsels in need of rescue, I didn’t even find a cop on patrol. What a bummer! Looking at the newspaper the next evening, we have an evening paper in our town cos our people here don’t like working all night to get out a morning edition, I discovered there had indeed been a crime in the area. A thief had broken into someone’s fence enclosed back yard and stolen a bicycle. The local constabulary were hot on the trail of the perp and arrests were expected shortly. Wow! My big chance to be a vigilante crime solver all come a cropper cos I cashed in too soon. I went home and to bed about two in the morning and the bicycle theft was thought to have occurred closer to three-thirty. It also didn’t help I was patrolling downtown and the bike was stolen out in the suburbs on the west part of town. Ya see how tough it is being a private crime fighter? I was in the wrong place at the wrong tome and I tossed it in too soon. Sometimes ya just can’t win. Not that it matters, but almost a week later the local police with their big guns and official police vehicles and computers and their uniformed organization haven’t themselves found the stolen bike, but arrests are expected momentarily! Hey, I like masked vigilante stories as well as the next guy, but it’s pretty clear they are nothing more than fantasy tales. They remain fantasy on Tandra, too. But maybe not quite so far removed from everyday reality as in the comics put out by the main stream. May the sun always shine on your parade! Next Week; “Act Of Persuasion” Tandra...more than escapist fantasy, it’s a revolution! Hanther |
