Let’s be honest about this. Kenia, the Dragon Queen, is not much into mercy. Her orders here, to slay them all, has nothing to do with Rights Of The Accused. Jacob’s assurance that several of the robed ones visible in the camp are the kidnappers who took Shaikha by force is enough to convince Kenia everyone in the camp should be exterminated. They get no reading of Miranda Rights and no high priced taxpayer funded lawyers.

For comparison’s sake, take the example of three guys who determine to knock over a Seven-Eleven. Two go inside to get the money while the third stays outside in the car to keep the motor running and drive the other two away from the scene when they come running out with the loot.

The two go inside and, while the robbery is in progress, murder the cashier before grabbing the loot and racing outside to pile into the car which the driver then slams into gear and drives away at high speed.

In this case, the driver will also be charged with murder even though, as his state provided lawyer will certainly insist, he never left the getaway car and, possibly, did not even possess a gun. Never mind, he was part of the robbery team and a willing accomplice to the crime. On those grounds, he is as responsible for the murder of the cashier as the thug who pulled the trigger.

Kenia rates those who stayed at the camp and did not actually grab Shaikha as being guilty accomplices of those who actually stole into the retreat and took the child.

My mother was fond of the story of Old Dog Trey who ran with the sheep killing dogs. Trey never killed a sheep, but he associated with sheep killers. When the shepherds came to terminate the sheep killing dogs, they killed Old Dog Trey along with his guilty companions. Don’t pal around with criminals if you don’t wish to be considered one yourself.

It could be argued the Dragon Queen should not engage in wholesale vengeance. But revenge has got nothing to do with it. The Dragon Queen is simply protecting an innocent from men who have demonstrated they have every intention of placing the child in peril and causing her pain and Kenia is in no way interested in mercy to such men.

It may be said Kenia is not acting in a civilized manner, but that is the point. It has never been claimed Kenia is civilized.

May the sun always shine on your parade!
