Tandra Page 969, February 3, 2008

Visit :

Let me tell you about my weekend.

Most of you are aware these pages are created in advance of the posting date. I don’t write and draw them the week just before they are scheduled to go up on Sunday. You are also mostly aware the pages have, in fact, gone on line Friday before the Sunday for which they are scheduled. But that’s not the point. There are several reasons for the advance lead time, the most important being, should a major disaster occur and I am incapacitated the week just before posting, a routine of producing the page the preceding week would mean the page would not be ready for the scheduled post date.

So, a greater lead time in producing pages is insurance of a sort. A personal disaster that puts me out of circulation does not mean a missed post. It only eats into my lead time. As I type this, I am writing almost four months ahead...into May, 2008. I am penciling pages for late April. The inking is tighter than I would like which is the reason I inked two pages this weekend past (and a reason I am typing this on a Monday morning after it should ideally post yesterday, Sunday). However, I have a history of not posting these Updates as promptly as I do the pages themselves.

As a consequence of being less advanced on the inking, I am not so far ahead with the colouring as I would wish. I am adding colours to Tandra Page 971 as this is typed. Not so bad, but I would be comfortable with another couple weeks cushion, just in the event of one of those “personal disasters” I mentioned above.

All of which leads in to “What did I do this weekend?”

Aside from inking two pages, I also wrote four pages of story, story that should appear the last of April, 2008, and into May. This story has grabbed my imagination and is some of the best I have ever written. When I set for myself the commitment of producing a new Tandra Page and posting it each week, I was concerned I would not be able to post pages as promised. My style of representational illustration is not a style that can be knocked out in a couple hours while I am also watching the latest mindless sitcom on television. These pages are real work. Even as fun work, as I certainly enjoy creating Tandra, the pages are work nonetheless.

But four months in, the story almost writes itself. All I do is record events and check spelling. The pages are a joy to pencil and ink and the colours are an adventure of their own right. In short, I am having the time of my life!

And the story I recorded this weekend past is the beginning of a true epic in scope and concept. I can’t tell you plot landmarks because that would take away part of your fun of discovering the story week by week. But let me tell you, you are in for a treat this year, and so am I. Don’t miss a single page as it goes up in this unfolding year. It wouldn’t be half the fun without you!

Next week; Tandra Page 970 titled “The Passing Of Time.”

See ya then.

May the sun always shine on your parade.
