I’m sitting on my back porch looking out over the yard as the rising sun brightens the Eastern sky.

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the people discover they can vote themselves largess out of the public treasury.’ -Alexander Fraser Tytler

The exact same holds true for a Representative Republic, which is technically what our nation is designed to be. The ugly fact of a representative government is that it soon comes to represent the most venal and corrupt. There are no laws that can be adopted nor implemented that will prevent this natural decay of even a representative government organized from the highest of moral principles. And when the corruption of the representative form of government comes, as it inevitably must, the nation divides into a mix of warring gangs fighting over the loot.

No matter the high minded laws passed to prevent this process, corrupt men will find a method for subverting the system to advantage.

This is the nature of man. Even men who have a vision of themselves as above corruption will find a path of employing unscrupulous methods to achieve their personal ambitions of position and power. The most popular path to position and power for those addicted to personal ambition is to make claim they act not for themselves, but for the common good of a specialized pressure group. They insist they act not for themselves, but for the greater good of the people. However, as always happens, whatever is “good for the people” always comes about to cement into position the activist’s power and wealth. How odd!

Today our nation, once a beacon of light and liberty to the world, has deteriorated into bands of competing gangs fighting over a shrinking pile of loot.

Sad to say, no nation has ever recovered from this terrible malady and there is no evidence the United States of America will be the first to do so.

“Rebellion to Tyrants is Obedience to God.” -Thomas Jefferson
